An active volcano
I was traveling recently in Sicily and saw the snow capped volcano Mt. Etna, complete with steam spewing from its cone!
It was a beautiful spring day and a quite impressive site! Mt. Etna is an active stratovolcano on the east coast of Sicily, Italy in the Metropolitan City of Catania, between the cities of Messina and Catania. It is one of the tallest active volcanoes in Europe. Etna covers an area of 459 square miles with a basal circumference of 87 miles. Mt. Etna is one of the world’s most active volcanoes and is in an almost constant state of activity.
To the left in the foreground were the beautiful mimosa trees in bloom. The mimosa trees are in bloom from late winter through spring. Their vibrant, fragrant pom pom-like flowers are a significant symbol for International Women’s Day (la Festa della Donna) on March 8, when they are frequently gifted.
